KANDORO PRIZE GUIDELINES

1. The TANZANET-Kandoro Prize may be shared by no more than two recipients, and may also be presented to an institution. The minimum value of the prize is US $100.00, and the maximum amount will vary depending on the availability of resources.

2. Members of the TANZANET-Kandoro Prize committee will use their own discretion in selecting the winner without influences from outside, but may accept suggestions from members at any time.

3. Nominations of prospective candidates may come from TANZANET members and other institutions or organizations. Once the committee reaches its decision on the winner, it is not required to justify its selection, and their deliberations will remain secret. They will however make public the contributions made by the chosen candidate in accordance with stipulated qualifications. The chosen candidate will be notified and asked to indicate in writing their desire and willingness to accept the TANZANET-Kandoro award.

4. Under no circumstances may the prize be awarded to a politician or religious leaders unless he/ she meets the specified qualifications.

5. The selection of winners is based on work done during the previous year, but at times the prize will go to a person whose work has gone unrecognized for years, or a whole body of work rather than a single publication.

6. The award will be presented annually on July 19 as part of TANZANET's birthday celebrations. The TANZANET-Kandoro foundation will then present the prize money and a trophy to the winner.

7. The TANZANET-Kandoro Foundation may appoint a representative to present the award to the winner on their behalf. The winners are invited to respond with a written speech that will later be published on the tanzanet.org website.

8. Source of funds for the TANZANET-Kandoro award will include TANZANET funds (not exceeding US $200.00 per year) and personal member donations. The foundation is also chartered to raise funds through other means such as promotions. The funds to be used for the TANZANET-Kandoro Prize will be managed by the Tanzanet treasurer as a separate line of expenditure.
